Red benches | Ferrere

Address: Piazza Sant'Agostino, 14012 Ferrere AT, Italia

On Monday, March 8, 2021, two red benches dedicated to women victims of feminicide were inaugurated in Piazza Sant'Agostino, in Ferrere, commissioned by the municipal administration with the efforts of City Councilor Tamara Parodi and a number of Ferrere volunteers who worked hard to set them up and paint them red, the color of blood shed by women victims of violence.

The colored benches - side by side - are clearly visible to anyone crossing the square and symbolize the place occupied by women who are no longer there, taken away by the fury of violent men.

March 8 was chosen to involve all women and give continuity to Nov. 24, which, officially, is the World Day Against Violence Against Women.

As part of the civic education activity, pupils in grades III, IV and V, led by primary school teachers, addressed the theme of personal dignity understood as awareness of one's own and others' feelings.

The pupils chose the phrase to be written on the plaque that was placed on the red benches in Piazza Sant’Agostino.

Among the phrases proposed, the choice fell on a thought by Rita Levi Montalcini: "Look at the light and the shadow will fall behind you".
